2000 Ford Windstar window motor?
The driver’s side window on my 2000 Ford Windstar no longer operates. There is only 9 volts on the motor when I press the button, and the voltage goes away in about 2 seconds. I hear a click from somewhere under the dash as the voltage goes away.
If I unplug the motor, and measure at the connector itself, the voltage is closer to 12 volts and remains there for several seconds when I press the up or down switch.
I think the sound I hear is a thermal overload. I want to know where this is located. I could really use an Electrical Schematic of this van.
MG,,,Bad Motors are a known issue on those things.
I just went thru all that with my Mom’s 2001.
The motor was in as bad a condition as I’ve ever seen.
The brushes were Totally gone,,,and had crumbled into small pieces,,,which were all packed in around the commutator.
Thats why You’re getting the Voltage Drop while Nothing happens.
The brush Debris acts like a carbon pile resistor.
Pushing Window Switch in effect,,,shorts to + & – Together,,thru the conductive carbon chunks packed around the brushes.
Juice is Not restricted to the brushes & armature on motor,,,so motor wont work.
But the pair of brushes are “connected” together thru the blob of junk,,,and also to ground
It obviously had it’s brushes crumbling in addition to normal “wear&tear” dusting,,probly it’s entire life.
Window had work 100% fine Always,,,then suddenly died as quick& sure as if a fuse had blown.
You can check the window motor by Directly Powering the motor itself.
The Door Panel is “easy” to remove,,,but there’s No Clips which pull straight out.
Ford uses FINGERS which point downward,,,and engage slots in the door frame.
Remove all the screws and push/pull Upward on the door panel.
Autozone has either a Bare Motor or an entire motor/regulator assembly for a VERY good price.
And it’s a good quality, well built part,,,and works as good as Original.
I was TRicked by the suddeness of the motor’s failure,,,more typical of an electrical /supply fault.
Then,,a bit stumped when all checked OK.
Doing some research on the net,,,is how I determined that failed MOTOR is a very common and well know fault.
I SUSPECT it may have been a particular group of motors,,,because Windstar Owners Had Probs with window,,,
Or never did.
Among those who Did have probs,,,it’s “always the motor” itself.
Guy at Autozone Happened to be an OldSchool genuine parts man,,,he told me same thing about Windstar windows.
Said they sold a LOT of them,,,and that’s why Autozone Stocks them.
He also said they sold a bunch, and had No probs, complaints, etc with any of them.
Take all the above with a grain of salt,,,but after my entire episode I ‘bleive what you’ll ultimately determine is that your window motor needs to be replaced.
Good Luck
