interior car lights on on entry?

I have led lights that I have added to my VW rabbit, but to turn them on I have to use a switch. I want the lights to be on when my doors are open and off when the doors are closed. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to do this? Also the led’s are powered from the 12v outlet.

Do you think a motion sensor would do the trick? If so where could I find Schematics to build it?

Any good ideas on how to solve this are appreciated!

Why not find the circuit for the dome or courtesy lights? They are typically operated by door switches and would simplify your installation. In addition, any enhanced operations by the dome light circuit (like the lights remain on for some time after you get out, turn on when you use the remote unlock or key unlock, etc) would also be done by your new LED’s.
