i need help with a late model honda civic. like diagrams or Schematics.?

we got a cheapo car from my uncle and the engine is not so unusual except for one part that is under the air filter, is roughly an inch in diameter and appears to be some kind of vaccuum pot. any info you may have or any tips you can give on getting it or any part of a late(pre 80-90′s) reapaired or replaced would be great. we need to know the name of the part mainly but any diagrams, schematics or tips are requested. and serious answers only please.

get a haynes or chiltons book from an auto parts store. It’ll be in there somewhere.
