Where can I find a schematic for a DC ammeter?
I have searched everywhere, and then some. I cannot for the life of me find a schematic for an “inline” dc ammeter capable of reading and displaying 200+ amps. This is for electrical monitoring and diagnostics, primarily in a 12v dc system. Main use will be for the stereo system. A site or drawing would be greatly appreciated.
You can either use a shunt resistor and voltmeter, or a clamp on ammeter. For DC, the clampon has to use hall effect sensor.
Shunt resistor would have to be about 0.001 ohms, which gives you a 200 mV drop at 200 amps. A good DVM can easily easily read 200 mV. The 0.001 ohm resistor would have to be a precision 4-terminal resistor rated at 50 watts.
