boost converter (i think) for car needed?

Hi all,

I know my car battery is about 12V, but I need at least 15V. The device (I’m guessing some form of a boost converter) needs to be able to deliver at least 1.5A.

I am an undergrad Electrical Engineering student, and I’ve been tinkering with electronics for years before I started college…just said that so that if anyone had a semi-technical answer or suggestion (or felt the need to link me to a schematic! Hint Hint =D ), I should be okay…

THANKS!

Zeke

If you are going to be using your 15V circuit in an automobile, keep in mind that the normal car alternators regulate the system voltage (to charge the battery) at about 14.6 volts. That may be enough for your application.

If not, here is a link to a Maxim device that will do the trick:

NOTE: TI does not have a 15V output DC/DC converter — at least none that support more than a few hundred mA.
